Welcome everyone to the Spanish Trail District Cub Scout Day Camp staff!

A few announcements:

* Please note the very last chance for staff training will be Sunday, June 8th at 2pm. We were hoping to eliminate the need to do staff training the day before camp starts but it looks like we will not have a choice again this year.

2.       * Den chaperones will receive their final den rosters on Sunday and camp set up will begin at 3pm. The archery and bb ranges will be set up as well as the craft room, camp office, etc. We need lots of volunteers for camp setup. Adults and Boy Scouts.

3.       * Den chaperones will be allowed to set up their den areas on Sunday. See list below of items Den Chaperones will want to bring. Den areas will be in the same area as last year, any shady area between the west fence line and the playground.

4.       * If your pack or troop has 5 gallon igloo water jugs that can be loaned to Day Camp, please bring on Sunday. We will have plenty of ice donated each day.

5.       * We are also in need of popup canopy tents to provide shade at BB Range. If you have an extra canopy tent, please bring on Sunday. We can also use some industrial size or large fans.

6.       * Tot Lot will be available at camp again this year. (Back by popular demand! J) Tot Lot is a child care program offered to volunteer staff for younger siblings (boys or girls) and allows the parent to attend day camp activities with their Cub Scout or Webelos. Tot Lot campers will have their own age appropriate crafts, outdoor activities, rest time as well as extra snack time. The cost per Tot Lot camper is only $20 for the entire week. This fee should be paid in cash on the first day of camp and is just to cover extra snacks and crafts for the Tot Lot campers. Christi Melton will be our Tot Lot Director again this year. We have one teenage volunteer from last year returning to assist her and we plan to have one to two more girls to assist her. If you know you plan to bring a younger sibling to Tot Lot, please let me know ASAP so we can hold a spot in Tot Lot camp and this will allow us to get a head count in advance. Tot Lot is open Monday – Thursday. Friday is a family day so siblings can tag along with you for Friday’s activities. This will also allow our Tot Lot staff to enjoy Friday’s activities with their scouts.

7.       * Golden Corral in Tillman's Corner will be donating lunch for staff Monday - Thursday. :-) There will be a different menu each day. Please come to the Multipurpose Building to pick up your lunch and then please each with your scouts.

8.       * Camp hours changed this year. Opening ceremony for camp begins at 8:00 a.m. and closing ceremony will be at 2:20. Scouts will be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. and dismissed at 2:45. In the mornings, please be in your den area by 7:30 a.m. so the scouts in your den can find you. They can assist you with getting ready for the day, put lunches away, etc.

9.      *  We have an Olympic theme this year. The dens will be given a country name. Dens will be encouraged to learn something about the country they are representing in our Olympics. Maybe with attire, skits, etc. for opening or closing ceremonies. Dens will earn medals throughout the week for exhibiting good scout spirits, friendliness, cleanliness, etc. Friday’s Family Fun Day will be a day full of Olympic style events. There will be an event every scout will enjoy. Some will be relay races, some will require the den to compete as a group and some events will allow the scout to compete with a buddy. Good sportsmanship will be encouraged throughout the week and please reiterate as much as possible.

10.  *  Our number of campers is down this year. We typically have around 100 campers but this year we will have about 65 campers. Fortunately, our number of volunteers has not suffered this year. We will have a whopping 39+ volunteers at day camp this year. Wow!!  Thank you!!! Nita and I worked very hard on the day camp roster and tried to meet the requests of every volunteer and on a first come/first serve basis. Please keep in mind that it really does take a whole “village” of volunteers to put on a successful day camp and every staff assignment is important.

*Suggested items for Den Chaperones to bring:

1. Canopy or tarp

2. card table

3. camp chair (scouts will be given 5 gallons buckets with lids again this year to use for storage and seating)

4. ice chest to keep lunches cool for campers

5. sunscreen

6. simple game ideas to keep scouts busy during unexpected downtime (any kind of ball is helpful)

7. hat (scouts will be given a hat this year)

8. extra sandwich or snacks in case a scout forgets to bring something from home
